Reigate & Banstead District Sports Council Awards 2020 – Young Sports Person of the Year

Alleke Allum, Basketball

Alleke has been playing Basketball since she decided she wanted to play ball aged 5. She started with after school basketball club at her primary school and was quickly picked by her school club to start playing in the Surrey CVL local league when she was just 8 playing in a mixed team. She has always worked tirelessly to better herself as a player and was then picked to play for her county (U13 girls) team aged just 9. Since then she has had to deal with the total collapse of her beloved club Ball Up Sports after the owner passed away and has since then joined the top Women’s Basketball Club in the country.  Last year she was picked for the Basketball England Aspire Programme, the pathway to developing future England and GB Players. She recently took part in their Aspire Tournament with Under 13 girls across the whole of England and was made Co Captain of her team (Under 13 Girls South East Region) which involved her leading and inspiring the rest of her team throughout the tournament. She also won the National Shooting Contest – making her the best U13 Girl Shooter in England. She now spends Fridays at her new club helping inspire the new Girls coming up in what is one of the fastest growing Girls sports in the UK!
