After gaining an athletics qualification in 2018 Kate guided a small group of family and friends through a beginners’ running programme. Buoyed by their weekly improvement and enthusiasm she established a running club and offered an open structured Couch to 5k schedule designed for new runners to gradually increase their running time and reduce their walking time over 9 weeks to prepare them to run 5k non-stop. Upon graduation she awards them certificates recording their achievement and encourages them to participate in the local 5k Reigate Priory Parkrun for which there is a big take up.
To motivate the newly graduated runners to continue running she devised an original programme to prepare them to run up to 10k and beyond, the latest synchronised to end just before the annual Run Reigate races in September. A number of runners successfully participated in both the 10k and half marathon races.
In year 2 she has increased the number of coached sessions from 3 to 5, introducing a range of disciplines.
